Completion of Gaelscoil Lorgan, Castleblayney
Semple & McKillop are delighted to celebrate the completion of Gaelscoil Lorgan, a fantastic new Irish-medium school in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan.
As the site located just a few minutes from our Castleblayney Office, it was a particularly meaningful project for our team to be involved in — a fantastic new facility right on our doorstep and one that will be an important addition to the local community.
As Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Engineers, we were proud to play our part in delivering a modern, energy-efficient learning environment designed to support the school and its pupils over the years.
The project brings together high-quality building services, that were carefully coordinated with the wider design to create a comfortable, efficient and future-focused educational facility.
A highly efficient Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) provides the primary source of heating for the school, including space heating and the pre-heating of domestic hot water. The system uses a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant and provides the school’s base heating load, with fully modulating LPG boiler assistance forming part of a Bi-Vaillant heating solution. This approach has been designed to maximise system efficiency while supporting carbon reduction.
Across all teaching spaces, low-energy, high-efficiency Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation (MHRV) units have also been installed. These operate on a demand-controlled basis, responding to occupancy levels to provide a controlled supply of clean, tempered fresh air to each space.
Together, these systems provide an efficient and responsive approach to heating, hot water and ventilation, supporting both energy performance and a comfortable learning environment.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Gaelscoil Lorgan from design through to completion. It’s been a pleasure to contribute to a project that will have a lasting benefit for the local community and Irish-medium education in the area.
