Grand Opera House
Name: Grand Opera House
Location: Belfast, N. Ireland
Client: Grand Opera House Trust
This extensive restoration focused on the Grade A listed 1895 Matcham theatre with almost 1100 bespoke auditorium seats.
The foyer and public spaces have been totally redesigned with a stunning new helical stair linking the public spaces to make it more sympathetic to the Matcham building.
Four new bars were fitted out including in the restored 1980 glass extension overhanging Great Victoria Street, as well as beautifully refurbished stalls and circle bars. A permanent heritage exhibition now tells the fascinating story of the Theatre’s 125-year history.
The theatre’s technical services infrastructure was fully upgraded to meet the technological requirements of a modern-day touring venue theatre whilst being sensitive to the historical fabric of the building.
