Significant Milestone on Healthcare Project
We were delighted to be part of the design team for the successful delivery of the Energy Centre & Maintenance Compound at St. Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit, Longford.
This project represents Phase 1 of a wider campus development, which will deliver additional accommodation and enhanced facilities for the Community Nursing Unit.
To support the future expansion of the site, an alternative delivery strategy was adopted. This involved producing the core of the site’s heating and hot water demand through green renewable energy, utilising Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) as the primary heat generator. Delivering the main plant infrastructure at this early stage has enabled a seamless transition to the new Energy Centre and has already provided an uplift in efficiency and decarbonisation across the existing buildings.
The project also included the installation of a new ESB substation and main switchboard to support campus infrastructure, along with low-pressure hot water (LPHW) heating systems, advanced BMS controls, and natural gas infrastructure to complement the heat pumps during periods of low ambient temperature.
This was a great collaborative effort by the entire project team in delivering this important enabling phase for the future development of St. Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit.
